Marks Did Not Decide Her Fate
Her 10th board result declared and she got 42 % marks. She exclaimed, “ maa I am promoted to class 11th hurray. ”Even her mother was very happy that her daughter had cleared 10th board exam. With this result she dreamt to be a doctor. White coat was very fascinating for her.
She went to a college to get admission in pre-medical. The college refused to give her PCB because she secured very less marks. She begged to head of the department and told her that she will put her hundred percent efforts. The HOD agreed to give her admission in the branch till September under the condition those she scores 80% marks in the exams, else she would need to change her branch.
Any how she convinced her teacher and thanked her. She was very happy and went home. Though she was an average child she never ever got more than 45 % marks till class 10th. But she was a leader, prefect in the school, sports captain, a scout & guide, good dancer and an artist/ orator. She was excellent in everything except studies and for her, math’s was like a ghost, she always tried to run away from numbers.
She started studying physics, chemistry and biology. Except biology rest of the subjects started scaring her. Any how she got 81% marks in the first semester and she was allowed to continue with the chosen subjects. After a year again the result came, she got supplementary in physics. She and her father were very disappointed.
Her father told her to be at home and learn all the house hold chores, that she could never pass the exams. She started thinking that “ I can’t complete graduation even so forget about to be a doctor. With this thought she sat at home she left her studies. Almost after sitting ideal for 8 months, she filled examination form without telling her father.
This time she opted for Humanities. She gave private exams and in the first year she got 48 % marks. For the first time in her life she secured 48 %, this boosted her moral and continued her studies. In the 2nd year she got 54 % and in the final year she got 58%. Oh my god, she even could not imagine that she could get SUCH GOOD marks.
After graduation again she was in dilemma ….now what should I do, somebody suggested for ICWA, she filled the form for ICWA, another person suggested that you should go for English literature .She started doing masters in English literature. Before she could complete masters she got married. Her dream was left unfulfilled. She was only a girl who could not do anything, could not achieve anything in her life.
After 5 years of marriage again she thought “I should do something but what she did not know. She found herself comfortable with colors and brushes. Painting was her hobby. She started diploma in textile designing. This time she had responsibilities of her home and a little daughter also. She used to send her to a play school meanwhile she used to go to her classes.
She completed this diploma with excellence and started her career. While pursuing this career and raising up her daughters, suddenly she realized that she must study about the child psychology. She gathered many books and started reading them. On one fine day a senior professor had suggested her to take a formal degree in psychology. At that time she was 30 years old lady and mother of two daughters with different interests.
At the age of 30 she gathered courage and started studies again. The ill fate did not leave her here; her professor did not allow her to give exams for two years. She told her “ we do not want to let our department down because you cannot pass the exams better you try in the next year.
This time she was in tears, but she had a hope for the next year. Next year came and again her madam said “See, if you want to do masters then go for history, you are not meant for psychology”. This was an awful condition for her, she felt dejected, no hope left for her.
She was discouraged by her teacher too. After a year she got one more chance to pursue psychology from a different college. Here she secured fifth position in the university, 68 % marks. This was the beginning for her; she did two post graduate diplomas and many specialized courses and training and went up to the highest degree.
Now she is a self contented successful psychologist, being invited nationally and internationally nobody asks her about her percentage in different classes. She is helping the students like her: learning disabled.
