Raise Your Voice to Raise Respect

On this 3rd march I took a flight from Indore to Hyderabad. As I was  entering the flight, I heard “oh my god what a sexy air hostess”. I took my seat and I saw there was a group of men, around 15 adults. They sat at their place and were continuously passing absurd comments to the air hostess.

All passengers boarded the flight and the pilot announced to take off. The air hostesses were checking all the passengers whether they have fastened their seat belt properly. Three persons, sitting beside me did not fasten their belt and said “ see this belt is too small to fasten so It cannot be done” . The air hostess tied their seat belt. While this, those three MEN were trying to touch her body parts.

As she left the place after tying, one of them exclaimed “what a body odour” and laughed vigorously. They were clicking pictures and making videos.  I was watching all this sitting quietly. Though I was feeling very bad about these girls . I was thinking Oh God, somebody should have taught them to respect women. But I had decided not to put my nose in between. The second thought was, may be these girls are smart enough to handle such men so they will protect themselves.

17098624_10212399083322222_8793053719113389239_nI put my sunglasses as if I don’t want to see all these nasty things and turned my head towards the window. The air hostess started their food services and these shameless people continued their obscene statements/language.

All four girls were very disturbed and all of them were requesting them not to do such things but they did not listen to them. All my co passengers were watching them but none of them uttered a single word in favor of the girls.

At last, the leader crew member came and asked their intention. They told that, we men are meant for admiring the beauty of girls, you should feel proud that we are doing so.  After hearing this statement, I boiled up with anger and raised my voice, shouted on them, I asked to the air hostess to give a tight slap right now and call the police immediately and do not allow them to go out. The air hostess called the police from the flight.

Now all the passengers started staring at me as if I am doing something wrong.

We landed at Hyderabad airport. The ground force came and took them aside. One of the person came in front of me, touched my feet and begged  “ Didi, you can save me, I am a very respected person, if the police will take me along with them, my image in the society  will be ruined. I have a family too.  Please save me.

I was wondering-  Is the  Duty of a family person is only to respect their daughters and sisters ? When they were involved in nasty things, they even did not think about their reputation in the society.

That if these fellows had been taught to respect  women right from the beginning then these girls would not have been victimized by these MEN.

If I would have raised my voice as soon as I saw them doing nasty things, their act could have not been encouraged.

Today, on women’s day, I request all the women, please raise your voice against these incidents without thinking that, this is not my business. Support all women and show your concern.
